Washington DC

FDR Monument, Washington DC, November 2009.
This monument is one of the less trafficked one in DC, but deserves much more attention than it gets. Have lived here 10 years and had never been until this year. It’s tremendous. This particular quote was very inspiring on this day:
“We must scrupulously guard the civil rights and civil liberties of all citizens, whatever their background. We must remember that any oppression, any injustice, any hatred, is a wedge designed to attack our civilization.”
How fitting a tribute for a man who presided over the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

“Ugh, you have those damn badges.”
I had a tour of the West Wing yesterday. The above scene may have happened.
GPOYWhatever, outside the White House.
(I’m at the far right, next to Erin, whose photo I have stolen.)
Erin: You know who should be in the Situation Room? The Situation.
It’s nearing the end of my time in D.C., and I still haven’t been to see the Winifred Beecher Howe* memorial.
*An early crusader for women’s rights. She led the Floor Mop Rebellion of 1910. Later, she appeared on the highly unpopular 75-cent piece.
